Message From Mother Provincial

Warm welcome to the Website of the Indian Province of the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy. We launch this website with the intention to give more details about our Congregation and the services our sisters render through different ministries. Our Congregation is known as Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy originated in Savona, Italy by St.Mary Joseph Rossello, our Foundress, on 10th August 1837. During her life she had extended new foundations in Italy and America, it was her unending desire to reach India, China and Japan.

God has paved the way to fulfil her dream in 1969 June 24th, the first batches of ten candidates travelled to Italy from India. They underwent their religious formation and received the religious habit on 8th September 1972. On 3rd December 1974 the first community of Daughters of the Our Lady of Mercy began at Poomala, Sulthan Bathery, Kerala.

The charism of the congregation is “Mercy”. The sisters are engaged in Pastoral, Educational, Social and Health ministries. In all our ministries we try to be the channels of mercy. The special ministry we are engaged with are education for Hearing Impaired children, caring the HIV affected children, Old Age Home and an Orphonage for girl children.

In India we are working in seven states, Karnataka, Kerala, TamilNadu, AndhraPradesh, Telangana, MadhyaPradesh and Maharashtra. We are almost to start two missions in PNG and in Assam. Everywhere our presence is acknowledged with the motto of our Foundress, “Heart to God and Hands at work” and share the finest traits of mercy.
